Hawaii – mainly work, not play

Although it seems hard to believe, we were actually working in Hawaii…… This shows the highlights of the APEC CEO Summit. Sixteen heads of state including Presidents Obama, Medvedev and Hu Jintao.

Another stationery purchase

My new notebook.

Best memo pad ever

I’m a big fan of stationery and found this at Liberty yesterday. Love.

Back from Morocco

We were in Morocco up until a week ago, to run the Fez Conference of Nobel Laureates. Sadly, the event was postponed by the King, following the terrible bombing in Marrakech. In the week that I was there – my first ever visit to the country – I was lucky enough to stay a couple of nights in the beautiful Palais Jamai, on the side of a hill in Fez. My room, which you can see in the pictures, was in the gardens, and had a fountain and sun patio outside. I wish I could have stayed a little longer to enjoy it.

Another project over…. GCF, Riyadh

I’m just back from Saudi Arabia, managing the speakers for the Global Competitiveness Forum. An intense event with well over 100 speakers, but one of the most fulfilling I’ve worked on for a long time. And Riyadh: not at all what I expected. Less restrictive, a friendlier work environment, and hospitable – wish I had had time to see some of the city. Next time…..

Project Entrepreneurship (a.k.a. what I have been doing for a month)

I have just finished a month-long project in Dubai, working on the Celebration of Entrepreneurship event. The video above gives you a glimpse of the spirit of the two-day conference, but not the scale.

The tech set-up was huge, with live streaming of every session, and more than 2,500 people and almost 200 speakers. From the 14-year-old Kuwaiti iPhone app developer to some of the biggest CEOs in the Middle East / North Africa / South Asia region (and cricketer Imran Khan), it was a dynamic and exciting crowd. And it wasn’t just about creating a cool event – there were huge announcements of partnerships, investment and seed funds. All in all, a working adventure.

The perfect project notebook?

I’m a total notebook geek. I have a selection of Smythson notebooks for general musings (mainly lists of books and make-up I want to buy) but they’re almost too pretty to use – and inevitably to lose. I also like Moleskines for projects, but this Action Book from Behance might be the perfect solution – like a doodle pad, memo pad and Post It collection rolled into one.
