Handed down from mother to daughter

While at home for my sister’s wedding this summer and wallowing in nostalgia, I found these old photos of my parents’ wedding in 1968 – impossibly glamorous. And, as the final photo, my grandparents on their wedding day. It is the same dress.

On my wishlist. I saw some of these restored vintage typewriters at a market in the West Village.

$14m castaway

Yours – for just $14 million: Kings Island. At 70,000 square metres, it is the largest man-made island in the world. I presumed it would be in Dubai but it is actually 15 miles off the coast of Denmark. The property comes with a 24-room hotel, as well as its own nightclub and restaurant. It’s accessible by yacht or helicopter.

Also known as Middelgrundsfortet, it was created in 1890 as a sea fortress, and served as a military area until 2002, when it was purchased by a private investor.
